Business Loan Guidance

Fund the next stage of your business.

From a stock purchase to an expansion plan, the right discussion begins with how your business uses and earns money. Explain the requirement, timing and repayment source so your enquiry has a clear commercial purpose.

An enquiry is not a loan application approval. Availability, pricing and final terms are determined by the lender.

Show how the business will repay

Proprietorships, partnerships, LLPs and companies may have different application and authority requirements. Lenders can consider operating history, turnover, cash-flow consistency, existing credit and banking conduct. Explain seasonal sales and delayed receivables rather than treating turnover as the complete picture.

Purposes to discuss

  • Inventory and stock
  • Working capital
  • Business expansion
  • Premises improvements

Permitted use of funds depends on the chosen product.

What to understand

Match funding to your business cycle.

01

Working capital or a long-term purchase?

Inventory and receivables create short-term cash-flow needs, while equipment or premises expansion may generate returns over a longer period. Explain the purpose, timing and expected repayment source rather than requesting an amount without context.

02

What the lender may assess

Operating history, turnover, cash flow, banking behaviour and existing borrowing can all matter. Seasonal receipts and one-off credits need context. A profitable business can still face repayment pressure when customers pay late.

03

Structure and security

Proprietorships, partnerships, LLPs and companies may have different document and authority requirements. Business finance can be secured or unsecured; ask about collateral, personal guarantees, fees and repayment terms before comparing offers.

Prepare with purpose

Build a useful business file

Use this as a starting checklist. The chosen lender will confirm the records, format and period it needs for your case.

Use the website form for an initial enquiry. Do not include account passwords, PINs or sensitive identity numbers in the message.

Questions, answered

Business Loan questions

How is working capital different from equipment finance?

Working capital supports day-to-day operating needs such as stock and receivables. Equipment funding supports an asset purchase. The appropriate structure depends on how the business will generate cash to repay it.

Does turnover alone determine eligibility?

No. Lenders may also examine profits, banking, operating history, credit obligations and cash-flow consistency. A high turnover figure does not guarantee repayment capacity or approval.

Will collateral be required?

That depends on the product and assessment. Ask whether finance is secured, whether a guarantee is required, and what obligations attach to any security.

Can a new business enquire?

Yes, but an enquiry is not an eligibility decision. Some products require an operating history, and businesses without established financial records may have fewer available options.
